Description

Troldhaugen was composed especially for Rosie Hughes, Flowers Band's Principal Horn and 2013 Player of the Year. This luscious solo for Tenor Horn, incorporates snapshots of ‘Morning' from Edvard Grieg's ‘Peer Gynt' as a basis for the work's melodic material, but with a tasteful added twist from composer Jonathan Bates who is himself an accomplished tenor horn soloist.

The title takes its name from Edvard Grieg's house, located on the outskirts of Bergen, amongst idyllic countryside and lakes. The composer paints a musical picture of this beautiful Nordic setting through a wonderfully crafted lyrical addition to the tenor horn repertoire.
