Jacob Vilhelm Larsen (born 1976) started as cornet student in his hometown Hjørring at the age of eight. He started his career as conductor in 1996 when he took over the YMCA Scouts’ Brass Band. In 2000 he moved to Århus for classical trumpet studies at the Jyske Concervatory of Music with teachers Martin Schuster and Kristian Steenstrup. In 2002 and 2003 he conducted the brass band of Silkeborg to 2nd places at the Danish brass band championships. After this, his recognition as conductor grew rapidly.
Jacob finished his studies at the Jyske Concervatory of Music in 2006, achiving a master degree at the trumpet as well an exam in education. In August 2009 he moved to Norway for his new post as conductor of Stavanger Brass Band. Besides his post at Stavanger Brass Band he is also very active as composer and arranger.
