Born in Derby, England in 1997, composer and arranger Matthew Eden spent his early life studying the piano and the trombone, during which time he performed with the Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. He later studied composition at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Dr Laura Bowler and Professor Adam Gorb, graduating in 2019 with honours, and having been a finalist in the RNCM’s prestigious Gold Medal award.
Matthew’s work has been commissioned and performed by a variety of ensembles including The Hallé Orchestra, the Central Swiss Youth Orchestra, Black Dyke Band, the Foden’s Band, and the Manchester Singers. In 2017 he spent a year as Young Composer in Residence at Black Dyke Band, and has since 2019 been Composer in Association with Derwent Brass.
