Nocturne
As Norway’s entry to the 1995 Eurovision Song Contest, the group Secret Garden made history by winning with Nocturne, an entry that was more an instrumental piece than a song. In the 40-year history of this prestigious pan-European television extravaganza, an instrumental piece had never previously won.
Originally written as a violin solo, this arrangement for cornet (or flugel horn) and brass band was performed for the first time by the Eikanger/Bjørsvik Musikklag Brass Band at the Gala Concert during the European Brass Band Championships held in Bergen, Norway in May 1996. The soloist on that occasion was renowned trumpeter Rod Franks.
Nocturne is featured on the CD Best By Farr (DOYCD059) performed by Eikanger and is also available from Prima Vista Musikk with Wind Band Accompaniment.
